Answer
Who does land clearing in Polk County?
The short answer
Element Environmental does; Polk is one of the six Central Florida counties on its contact page. The work runs from selective clearing to full-site removal, with brush dealt with by grubbing, mulching or haul-off, and the site left level and ready for grading and utilities. Estimates are free and someone is typically out within 24 to 48 hours.
What does land clearing in Polk County involve?
Polk is sand, palmetto scrub, pine and oak, and a wet-season water table that decides more about a clearing job than the acreage does. A site that walks dry in April can be a different site in September.
Element Environmental publishes the work in four parts: selective clearing, where you keep what you want and remove what you do not; full-site clearing, complete vegetation removal for a clean site; brush removal by grubbing, mulching and haul-off; and site preparation, leaving the ground level, smooth and ready for grading and utilities. The crews work to minimise soil disturbance, and the finish is debris removed and the site left neat.
Selective or full-site?
Decide this before the estimate, because it changes the equipment and the day.
Selective clearing takes out what is in the way of the plan and leaves the rest, which suits a lot where mature trees are worth keeping or a parcel where only part is changing use. Full-site clearing is everything coming out, which is the normal case ahead of a development pad.
The cost page explains why the two are priced differently, and why what happens to the material is one of the larger items on either.
What happens to the brush and trees?
Three options, and the site decides which: grubbing, where roots and stumps come out with the vegetation; mulching, where the material is ground on site; and haul-off, where it leaves. Element publishes all three under brush removal.
Mulching leaves material on the ground and saves the haul. Grubbing is what a build pad needs, because a stump left under a slab is a problem later. Haul-off is the cleanest finish and the most expensive. Which one is right is settled at the site assessment, not on the phone.
What comes after the clearing?
Grading, drainage and access, usually in that order. A cleared site is not a build-ready site: water still has to go somewhere once the vegetation that slowed it is gone, pads have to be shaped, and something has to get equipment in and out.
Element handles those in the same scope, which is the main argument for one contractor over two. The main land clearing guide sets out how the phases fit, and the pond and ditch page covers what happens when the drainage on a cleared site has to be restored rather than built.
How big a job does this suit?
Any size is in the published scope, from a residential lot to a development. Honestly, though, a quarter acre and a fence line is better matched to an owner operator with a tractor, and the comparison page says so plainly, using what each company publishes.
Where Element is the right call is when the clearing is phase one of something: a site with a stormwater plan, a pad to a specification, an access road that has to survive the first wet week. Hickory Ridge Development is on the company’s project list as that kind of job.
How do I get someone out to look?
Call (863) 797-9970 or use the form on the site. Typical response time is 24 to 48 hours, and the estimate is free and comes from a site visit, because density and ground conditions cannot be described accurately over the phone by anyone, however well they know their land.
What helps when you call: the rough acreage, what is growing on it, what the land has to become, and whether anything is already flooding.
Questions we get asked
Do you work across the whole of Polk County?
Polk is one of six counties named on the company’s contact page, with the wider Central Florida area beyond them. The service area page lists all six.
Can you clear a site that is already wet?
That is what the assessment is for. Wet ground changes the equipment, the sequence and sometimes the season, and it is better raised early than found mid-job.
Do I need a permit to clear land in Polk County?
Wetland lines, protected trees and stormwater rules all exist in Central Florida, and all of them are cheaper to deal with before a machine is booked. Raise it at the assessment.
Do you do storm cleanup as well?
Yes. Storm cleanup, debris removal and the washout repairs that follow run through the same crews and equipment.
