Answer

Who repairs shoreline and pond bank erosion in Central Florida?

The short answer

Element Environmental does. The published scope is shoreline stabilisation, bank stabilisation, embankment reinforcement, drainage correction, infrastructure protection and storm damage restoration, and the project list includes pond bank stabilisation at Lakewood Ranch, coastal storm recovery at Gasparilla Island and Stump Pass state parks, and the berm and spillway at Lake Apopka.

What does erosion repair cover?

Six things, in the company’s own words from its erosion repair page.

WorkWhat it does
Shoreline stabilisationProtects shorelines and waterfronts from wave action, runoff and erosion
Bank stabilisationRegrades and reinforces slopes to stop erosion and prevent the next failure
Drainage correctionImproves flow to remove pooling and cut erosion at the source
Infrastructure protectionMeasures against washouts on roads, paths and construction areas
Embankment reinforcementStrengthens embankments by grading for long-term stability
Storm damage restorationRepairs what a storm took and stabilises what it loosened

The company’s stated aim is to stop active erosion, restore damaged areas and protect infrastructure for the long term, using solutions tailored to site conditions.

Why do pond banks fail in Central Florida?

Water, from both sides. Runoff down the bank cuts channels on the way in. Wave action and a fluctuating pond level undercut the toe from below. Sandy soil holds neither well, and a wet season does in weeks what a dry one does in years.

The visible symptom is a bank that has slumped or a shoreline that has moved. The cause is usually drainage, which is why drainage correction sits in the same scope as the stabilisation: a bank rebuilt without fixing where the water goes is a bank that fails again.

What do the published projects show?

Three of the six projects on the company’s project page are erosion work.

Lakewood Ranch pond bank stabilisation, which is the community pond case: banks on common ground, people living around them, a board responsible for them.

Coastal storm recovery and beach restoration at Gasparilla Island State Park and Stump Pass State Park, which is shoreline work at a different scale, after storms.

Lake Apopka berm and spillway reconstruction, which is an embankment holding water back and the structure that lets it through.

A spillway and a community pond bank are not the same job. What they share is that both were engineered, and that is the category of work this is.

Repair or clear?

Often both. If the pond has lost capacity to sediment and the bank is failing, the sediment comes out and the bank gets rebuilt in the same project. The pond and ditch clearing page covers the capacity side. On a golf course the same two problems appear at pond edges and on slopes, and the golf course page covers that.

What decides the cost?

How much bank, how steep, how far it has moved, what is above it that cannot be allowed to follow, and what the fix has to withstand. A path on a slope and a road on an embankment are different stakes. What the water is doing decides the method, and the method decides the number, which is why the estimate follows a site visit.

When should I call?

Before the next wet season, if a bank has started to slump. After a storm, as soon as it is safe, because a washout gets worse while it waits and storm damage restoration is in the scope. Call (863) 797-9970 or use the form; typical response time is 24 to 48 hours and the estimate is free. The main land clearing guide covers the rest of the company’s work.

Questions we get asked

Can a slumped bank be regraded rather than rebuilt?

Sometimes. Bank stabilisation in the published scope is regrading and reinforcing slopes. Whether regrading alone holds depends on the soil and on fixing the drainage that caused the slump.

Do you do seawalls?

The published scope is shoreline stabilisation and protection from wave action. Ask directly whether a hard structure is part of the answer on your site, because that depends on the shoreline and on permitting.

Who is responsible for a community pond bank?

Usually the association or the CDD, as part of the stormwater system it owns. That is why community associations are a published client type for this work.

Do you handle the permits?

Raise it at the first conversation. Work at a shoreline or on a stormwater structure is regulated in Florida, and it is cheaper to deal with before a machine is on site.

Tell us what is on the site

Roughly how many acres, what is growing on it, and what has to happen after it is cleared. The estimate is free and the site visit settles the things a phone call cannot.
