Lake Apopka Berm & Spillway Reconstruction
Project Overview
Element Environmental completed emergency restoration and reconstruction work after a major berm and spillway failure caused approximately 60,000 cubic yards of embankment material to enter Lake Apopka. The project required rapid response, large-scale material recovery, excavation, and reconstruction to restore critical water management infrastructure while protecting the surrounding lake environment. Element’s team salvaged usable displaced material, removed failed components, rebuilt the embankment with approximately 50,000 cubic yards of imported fill, and installed a redesigned spillway system with improved drainage performance. Work was completed through controlled earthwork operations, engineered lift placement, compaction, quality control testing, and close coordination with project stakeholders.
